Warmwell 2019

It was another sunny day for Warmwell despite it taking place at the end of November. Sadly it was to be a flying visit for us, with family commitments meaning we had to return home on Saturday. It’s such a busy time of the year and as I’m working every day and out every night next week I’m concentrating on the photos rather than the witty repartee…

Stacey’s muffs were getting a lot of attention while we waited to book in. She’d bought them from Amazon and they’d helped save her hands from frostbit on the ride over to Dorset. Check them out here if you fancy treating yourself for Christmas!

It’s become a tradition at Warmwell for me to organise a music quiz to accompany the early evening drinking in the chalet. This year was no different and it’s fair to say my lyric round was quite a challenge! If you want to try your luck then here is a link to them, for any eggheads amongst you.

Lee ended up the winner, proving that all those years of reading Smash Hits from cover to cover didn’t go to waste… He coveted his prize, a Lindt teddy bear, while the rest of us finished our drinks and headed to the do…

It was a fairly quiet night in the do, mainly just chatting to a few people we hadn’t seen for a while. The band were The Modules and Snowy was really keen to see them, but we didn’t stay long, preferring to sit in the bar instead.

We headed back at around midnight, just as ‘our’ song came on in the soul room (If I Could Only Be Sure, by Nolan Porter) so I dragged Lee in there and made him dance with me! It backfired though as he stepped on my poorly toe so I gave up and took him to the chippy instead. Having a 6′ 4″ guy treading on your ingrown toenail isn’t ideal!

Warmwell 2019 Custom Show

Saturday dawned and we went for breakfast in the on-site cafe, which inexplicably had its air conditioning blasting out over us, on a bitingly-cold November day. After lining our stomachs we headed outside for the custom show.

There’s a full gallery at the bottom but here are a selection of the scooters on display, starting with the stunning Old Blue.

Next up is Gary Dodson on his Peaky Blinders Vespa, the reincarnation of Creature Comforts which I featured in the Isle of Wight Custom Show 2018 post.

I loved the impressive engraving on this Vespa PX which is owned by Pip Brown. It’s Adi Clark’s handiwork, with chrome by Karl Russell. The scooter is called HEAT, inspired by the 1995 movie starring Pacino, De Niro and Kilmer, and features many images from the film.

The engine features a SIP MMW 225 Malossi barrel, cut and polished crank, lightened PK flywheel, strengthened clutch and a 28mm Dellorto carb. The paint is unmistakably by Gatch, and the powder coating is from Carrick Engineering.

I’m a sucker for a signwritten rusty scooter and the owner of this one was happy to pose with it for me.

I just managed to catch Sean Robinson’s latest machine, which Johnno Johnston was trying out for size. It had crazy handlebars and a spark plug gear shift, as well as a host of other unique features.

Well done yet again to Andy, Stuart and the rest of the SWSC crew for their brilliant organisation of this rally.
