We’d only just arrived in Ryde when somebody spotted Les Battersby! Not wanting to miss a photo opportunity, Gary ran down the street after him, with me tailing him closely. We got the photo and decided to have a competition to see which other soap stars we’ll spot this year on the rallies. Maybe we might bump into Dirty Den at Camber or Eddie Yeats at Brid!!! I managed a picture with Ranking Roger, but it was hardly on the same scale….

Coming home, there were only 13 cars on the ferry (yes, I counted them!) and mine was the only scooter. Another first, a kind ferry man gave me a ‘chock’ to put under my front wheel in case of turbulence. Luckily, the Solent was like a millpond and the chock was not needed. Instead, the heavens opened as soon as we reached Portsmouth, and we were both a bit soggy when we got home.

If anyone wants to bribe me to find out what Lee did in a drunken stupor last night then I’m open to offers. It may be normal behaviour for the Nuneaton Pacemakers but we Detours do try to reach a certain level of decorum….

Old Blue Vespa rally diaries
This is one of the rally diaries that appeared on my old website, BlueVespa.com, back in the 2000s.
I'm starting to put these on Diary Of A Detour so that everyone can take a wander down memory lane and relive the revival of my scooter club, the Midhurst Detours, and the fun we got up to back then.
Here's a handy link to them all, by year, for ease of reference!
(More years will be added soon!)
