Selsey Scooter Meet – June 2023

We’d heard about the Selsey scooter meets but hadn’t been able to go to previous ones because they’ve always clashed with something. They are held on the first Sunday of every months and each one has a Facebook event if you want to find out more. Organised by Tubbs, they are held at East Beach car park which is a nice big space next to the sea. There’s a kiosk selling drinks and snacks, and also a nearby fish ‘n’ chip shop as well as picnic benches and toilets. Everything you need for spending a couple of hours in the sun!

June meet

So finally, in June, we were able to make it over to Selsey. It’s only 7 or 8 miles but is around a half hour ride around the country lanes. Lee’s new chop isn’t quite road legal yet so he took Meat Is Murder, while I jumped on the Series 2.

It was almost an uneventful ride, except a slight wrong turn in Selsey where the signposts were somewhat lacking at a confusing junction. But luckily a local pointed us in the right direction and we arrived at East Beach car park where we were instructed to park in the second row.

It was only later when I realised there were areas for pre- and post-1970 scooters.

Scooter Clubs and mates

There were a lot of people there that we knew, and also a lot that we didn’t! There were contingents from Area 51 SC, Definitely Maybe SC, a few A5s as well as other independent scooterists. Plus a few from my own club the Midhurst Detours.

We got some drinks, ate our packed lunches on a park bench and caught up with everyone.

Trophies

There were six trophies up for grabs but I didn’t know any winners, I don’t think.

The categories were :

• Fave pre-1970
• Fave post-1970
• Fave Twist & Go
• Fave From All
• Best Paint
• Best Mod Style Scooter – won by Simon Clowes for his lovely GS.

All were voted for by the public.

All in all it was a very pleasant couple of hours and we all headed home at around 12.30/1pm.
